Live and Learn Academy offers four carefully selected Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credit courses, aligned with Ministry of Education standards. These courses provide rigorous, structured preparation for competitive university admissions, with a focus on critical thinking, academic writing, global awareness, and independent learning - skills top universities value highly.
Designed and taught directly by Dr. Fountas, PhD (with over 30 years of university-level teaching experience), the program features:
- Pre-recorded lectures accessible on a rolling basis for flexible, self-paced learning
- Weekly time with the instructor for personalized support and questions
- Guided weekly assignments with timely feedback
- Proctored final evaluations ensuring academic integrity
- Rolling intake starting after full accreditation (expected November 2026)
Students progress through a clear structure: pre-recorded content delivered in weekly modules, assignments to apply concepts, instructor feedback, and resources to build university-ready habits. Typical progression includes foundational concepts early on, applied analysis mid-course, and synthesis/projects toward the end. Sample materials are available upon request.

ENG4U - English (University Preparation)
This course develops advanced literary analysis, academic essay writing, argumentation, and critical reading skills through diverse texts (prose, poetry, drama, non-fiction). Weekly modules build progressively: early weeks introduce literary theories and close reading strategies; mid-course focuses on essay drafting, feedback, and text comparisons; later weeks emphasize independent research, sophisticated argumentation, and media/literary synthesis.
Key outcomes: Mastery of university-level essay structure, deep textual interpretation, independent research skills. Ideal for students targeting competitive programs in arts, sciences, pre-law, or any field requiring strong writing.
MDM4U - Mathematics of Data Management (University Preparation)
Focuses on probability, statistics, data analysis, graphing, and mathematical reasoning applied to real-world contexts (e.g., social sciences, business, health). Weekly progression: early weeks cover counting principles, basic probability, and data organization; mid-course dives into one- and two-variable analysis, distributions, and interpretation; later weeks apply tools to real datasets, evaluate validity, and culminate in investigative projects.
Key outcomes: Proficiency in statistical tools, data visualization, probability models, and evidence-based reasoning. Prepares students for programs requiring analytical skills in data-driven fields like economics, psychology, or business.
BBB4M - International Business Fundamentals (University/College Preparation)
Explores global markets, international trade, economics, ethics, management, and cultural influences on business. Weekly structure builds step-by-step: early weeks examine business fundamentals, globalization's impact on Canada, and environmental factors; mid-course analyzes trade theories, success factors in markets, and cultural/political challenges; later weeks cover marketing strategies, logistics, distribution, and culminate in case studies or applied scenarios.
Key outcomes: Understanding of globalization's impact, strategic business decision-making, ethical considerations in trade. Strong fit for students pursuing competitive business, commerce, or international relations programs.
HZT4U - Philosophy: Questions and Theories (University Preparation)
Investigates major philosophical questions (e.g., knowledge, ethics, existence, justice) through key thinkers and theories. Weekly modules progress logically: early weeks introduce philosophical foundations, reasoning skills, and branches like metaphysics/epistemology; mid-course explores ethics, socio-political ideas, and critical evaluation; later weeks focus on advanced theories, debate, essay construction on abstract concepts, and personal synthesis.
Key outcomes: Enhanced critical thinking, essay-writing on complex ideas, ability to engage rigorously with arguments. Excellent preparation for law school entrance, humanities, political science, or any field valuing deep analysis and debate.
